Adult Sunday School Resources Online

Spring 2010 Sunday School Quarter
Begins March 14, 2010
(5 Discipleship Groups/Classes)

Whether or not you're accustomed to coming out at 9:30, whether or not you're plugged into a small group, there's a place for you to join into one of our large groups and be nourished during the Sunday school hour at EP.  If you have any questions about the adult classes please contact Rev. Joshua Knott (jknott@epcnewark.org).  If you have any questions about classes for children please contact Debbie Freer (dfreer@epcnewark.org).

Group:  PARABLE OF THE TALENTS

Led by Dale Schultz

  • Jesus' parable of the talents is a well known story, but many Christians who take seriously its challenge to use their gifts and abilities to glorify God wonder just what it is that God wants them to do. Perhaps they haven't hidden their talent like the unfaithful servant, but they know that they are not being as productive as faithful servants. They are not aware that the answers they seek are found in the key themes underlying the parable itself. A fuller understanding of what the parable teaches will help all believers realize a clearer sense of mission in their daily lives. Please join us.

Group:  INSTRUCTING A CHILD'S HEART

Led by Stephen Rippon & Jared Guckenberger

  • Every believer, let alone every parent, feels the weight of the great commission to make disciples. Many parents, in particular, feel overwhelmed and under-equipped when it comes to making disciples of their children. In a world filled with a glut of books on parenting, Tedd Tripp's Instructing a Child's Heart stands alone in terms of gospel-centeredness, rich theology and practicality. Each week we'll watch a 30 minute video of Tedd Tripp covering topics such as 'Life is a Classroom,' 'Getting to the Heart of Behavior,' 'Rooting Consequences in Biblical Soil,' and 'Communication,' followed by discussion. Join us as we grow in disciple-making as parents.

Group:  ECCLESIASTES

Led by Tim Coyle

  • Ecclesiastes is a book that deals with issues of everyday life. In the process it touches upon some of the most difficult questions that any of us are ever faced with. In particular, it addresses the fairness and justice of things that happen to us, as well as how we can find purpose and meaning in life. Ecclesiastes contributes much to the study of worldview, and it has universal appeal because it confronts the concerns in life that each one of us wrestles with at one time or another. The book indeed offers truth and wisdom, but it does so in a way that is quite unique in the Bible. Join us as we study this remarkable book together.

Group:  CHRISTIANITY EXPLORED / INQUIRER'S CLASS

Led by Pastor Knott

  • This course is probably better named "Questions." Seasoned Christians, seekers, new believers, renewed believers and skeptics all have questions. Attendees are encouraged, each week, to ask questions about anything and everything. After 20-30 minutes of questions and answers, the last half of the class is taken up watching and responding to an outstanding video clip from Christianity Explored. These videos are asking questions as well, namely, 'who is Jesus?' 'why did he come?' and 'what does it mean to follow him?' and they explore how the gospel of Mark answers those questions. Please join us. Bring questions. Bring friends. Find answers.

Group:  ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)

Led by Jim Thomas

  • ESL is a class for those who desire to build relationships with our international community around the church, including the University of Delaware.  Each week there are topics for discussion and instruction that relate to the worship service.  Please contact Jim Thomas if you'd like to be a part of this vital work in Sunday mornings.
